Hemmings Find of the Day – 1937 Maytag kiddie car
While the appliance maker Maytag did indeed build automobiles in 1910-1911, it’s not clear whether the company built kiddie car racers like this 1937 Maytag kiddie car for sale on Hemmings.com. In the days before widespread availability of electricity, however, the company did build the small gasoline-fueled washing machine engines that powered many a kiddie car racer. This example appears to have been lovingly restored and made ready for a budding car enthusiast to tear up the neighborhood. From the seller’s description:
This car is totally restored – manufactured in 1937 and is one of the first twin cylinder cars manufactured by “The Maytag Company” of Newton Iowa. Every bolt and nut is replaced – the drive mechanicals are brand new. The tires are replicated since they are not manufactured any longer. The engine is totally rebuilt, Maytag logos, spark plugs included, all decals correct, swan hood ornament, painted correct Maytag red and white, original wheels, the exhaust is stock.
