Hemmings Classic Car receives national award
The American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association has recognized Hemmings Classic Car for excellence during its annual awards banquet last weekend at the Indianapolis 500. Senior Editor Jim Donnelly was awarded first place for magazine feature in the AARWBA writer’s competition for his story on a 1909 Alco racing car.
Dubbed as The Black Beast, the car is reportedly one of only two known surviving cars that ran in the inaugural Indianapolis 500 in 1911, and also won the Vanderbilt Cup road race on Long Island. The article appeared in the benchmark 100th issue of HCC.
