Hamer, South Carolina, 1970s

Much like Wall Drug, South of the Border on U.S. 501 in Hamer, South Carolina, is one of those tourist traps destinations that has far outgrown its original aim and that has in turn inspired more than its fair share of both bumper stickers and summer vacation photos. We came across this early 1970s South of the Border photo featuring plenty of cars in its parking lot on Jim and Chester’s Garage, though it also appears on the South of the Border website.
