In my newspaper days, I always appreciated how certain newsroom photographers had a knack for going out and getting great shots from everyday occurrences, and the photo above, published in July 1965 in the Greenville Daily Reflector, illustrates that knack. East Carolina University’s Digital Collections, where we came across the photo, doesn’t have the photographer’s name, but we see that the girl walking barefoot down the flooded streets is Bonnie Turnage, then 18, getting her feet wet thanks to an afternoon rainstorm that flooded a drainage ditch and backed water up onto Third Street just west of Route 11. And below, another Daily Reflector photo from 1965, this one more of an everyday shot showing an unnamed street in downtown Greenville. What do you see here?
