George Barris’s automotive creations gave the customizer fame, fortune and a larger-than-life persona, and news of his death on November 5, at age 89, fittingly came in the midst of the 2015 SEMA Show, perhaps the largest single gathering of like-minded individuals on the planet. An ordinary funeral would seem inadequate, so the Barris family has announced a “Celebration of the George Barris Legacy,” to begin at 10:00 a.m. Pacific on Saturday, November 28, at Forest Lawn Cemetery’s Hall of Liberty in Los Angeles, California.

In the brief statement announcing the event, the family writes:

Funeral Announcement – ‘Celebration of the George Barris Legacy’; starts at 10am sharp at the Hall of Liberty (Forest Lawn – Hollywood Hills).

Please join the Barris Family as we celebrate the work, life, and legacy of George Barris with his family, friends, kustom automotive colleagues, and fans from all over the World.

George’s Funeral will go off with a bang as he’d want it and we look forward to sharing it with you all.

Don’t forget to ride to George’s service in style, so get that Kustom, Hot Rod, Rat Rod, etc. running… because we have more planned for this day, which will revolve around us KRUISING together.

The Hall of Liberty, located at Forest Lawn Cemetery in the Hollywood Hills, seats roughly 1,000 visitors, and given Barris’s popularity, it’s safe to assume there will be standing room only once the ceremony begins. Details on the other planned events, centered around hot rods and customs, will be published on the Celebration of the George Barris Legacy Facebook page.
