GALLERY: Bristol Short Track U.S. Nationals Saturday

Bristol, TN- Some of the finest racers from across the country brought good, old-fashioned, short-track action to Bristol Motor Speedway for Saturday’s preliminary night of the Short Track U.S. Nationals.

There was no shortage of dramatics or heart-stopping moments.

Perhaps the most breathtaking moment of the day came in the Street Stock feature.  Chuck Barnes Jr. muscled his way to a win past Brett Hudson, who had dominated the feature up until the last lap.  Hudson expressed his displeasure after the checkered flag, before Barnes was met by jeers from Hudson’s crew on the way to Victory Lane.

A major melee clouded the Modified main after several cars piled up on the backstretch just past the midway point of the 50-lap feature.  Chad Poole proved to be untouchable, surviving several restarts on his way to the win.

Bo Hoelscher was in the right place at the right time to take the Sport Compact feature win.  When the leader dropped off the pace, Hoelscher was there to take the top spot.  He lapped a majority of the field and held a strong gap over Second Place.

The racing action was preceded by group qualifying for all divisions.  Former CARS Racing Tour Champion Raphael Lessard topped qualifying for the Super Late Models and then went on to win the first of two qualifying races.  The second was won by Chandler Smith.  Fast time for the Pro Late Models was set by Carson Hocevar.  In the Late Model Stocks, Myatt Snider topped the charts.

Racing begins at 2 P.M. Sunday with 100-lap features on the docket for the Late Model Stocks, Pro Late Models, and Super Late Models.
