Four-Links – Ferguson Mustangs, fishin’ for Sambas, land-speed motorhome, land-speed Luigi
* In our recent SIA Flashback on four-wheel-drive autos, there was a brief mention of the Ferguson four-wheel-drive Mustangs. Commenter rupewrecht uncovered a link to a German Mustang club’s website with more information, and Han Solex over at Hooniverse picked up on the meme a day later, with a couple great Mustang rally images posted in the comments. What we all want to know is: Where are they now?
* TA pointed out this story in the Telegraph about a 1957 VW 23-window microbus that was recently lifted from the bottom of a Norwegian fjord 35 years after its previous owner pushed it into the water. And yes, the new owner plans a restoration.
* We’ve linked to this thread about Alex Tremulis’s overactive imagination over at the Tucker Club’s message board before, but inexplicably overlooked this mention of Tremulis setting a land-speed record in a 26-foot Travoy motorhome at El Mirage in 1970. His speed, as certified by Otto Crocker: 97.613 MPH. (via)
* Luigi Colani is best known to netizens as the creator of those radical big rigs with bubble windshields. But 20 years ago, he also showcased 13 concept vehicles on the Bonneville Salt Flats, each designed with the purpose of capturing a different land-speed record. He called it Automorrow.
* And finally, what do you get when you cross a Piaggio Ape and a big rig? You get the coolest tiny hauler since the Pinto Air Freight Crosley. (via and via)
