Chicago, 1973
According to the caption for this John H. White photo for the Documerica project, taken in 1973, the Monroe Street commuter parking lot at Lake Shore Drive had enough parking spaces for 2,700 cars and would later be expanded to 3,600, so what you see here is only a fraction of what was there that day. And apparently – Chicagoans correct me if I’m wrong – but the modern-day street view shows that in the last 40 years it’s all been turned into parks, not parking. What do you see here?
