1969 Corvette L88

Arguably one of the most recognizable cars in IMSA and SCCA history, the 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88 campaigned by Dave Heinz and Don Yenko (and later, Bob Johnson) became known as the “Rebel Corvette” for its Confederate flag livery.  Winner of the 1971 IMSA GTO championship, the distinctive Corvette would also be used to set a GTO tri-oval speed record (at the hands of driver by Don Yenko). At this afternoon’s Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction, the car bid to a hammer price (excluding buyer’s fees) of $2.6 million, which was apparently just enough to meet the car’s reserve price.
