Corvette purists get a little irritated when a ’56 Corvette owner ditches his original 265ci small-block for something with more cubes. It really irks them when the car is painted anything other than one of the eight original colors. And they really lose it when one of them throws concours-perfect restoration out the window and turns a rare copy of America’s Sports Car into a big-block-powered, solid-axle drag racer. On the other hand, we are totally OK with it. Twice, even.
