Barre, Vermont, 1962
In all this time we’ve looked at street scenes – many of them supposedly everyday scenes in typical places here in America – we can’t recall ever seeing a Divco milk truck. That leads us to wonder whether home milk delivery really was as prevalent as many people recall, or if the photographers of all our street scenes weren’t really focusing on everyday street scenes. In any case, we finally have a Divco in today’s street scenes, taken in January 1962 at the intersection of South Main Street, Hill Street, and Ayers Street in Barre, Vermont, courtesy the Vermont Landscape Change program. What do you see here?
