Austin, Texas, 1951
In his farewell address, General Douglas MacArthur stated that old soldiers never die, they just fade away, but MacArthur didn’t follow that pattern. Instead, amid rumors he’d run for president, he took a tour of the country that included a June 1951 stop in Austin, Texas, the cause of the clot of people at the center of today’s carspotting scene, courtesy the Portal to Texas History. We can’t see the general, so what else do you see here?
