Aurora, North Carolina, 1966
Context makes all the difference. Most of the photos in our carspotting series show what are now old cars when they were new or relatively new and in their natural elements – out on the streets or in parking lots. But true students of the everyday car should also study them where they nest – in driveways or parked by the curb. Unfortunately, such photos aren’t nearly as common as street scenes or carspotting scenes, but in these two photos from East Carolina University’s Digital Collections, we see a number of cars parked at a row of houses on Seventh Street in Aurora, Colorado, sometime in September 1966. What do you see here?
