During the early months of 2007, Hemmings Motor News laid the groundwork to bring a world-class automotive event to northern New England. Far removed from a traditional car show, the three-day event would culminate with a celebration of pre-1974 automobiles in the tradition of the classic French Concours d’Elegance, with each vehicle carefully selected by invitation, highlighting the progressive design of the automobile and its importance. Originally held mid-summer on the grounds of Stratton Mountain Resort, the Hemmings Motor News New England Concours d’Elegance weekend consisted of a rally through the mountains on Friday, an open car show for non-invitational collectible vehicles on Saturday and a banquet Saturday evening, all building to Sunday’s Concours. A portion of the proceeds were distributed to local and/or regional charities.
In the ensuing years, the event expanded in size, scope and objective as it transitioned to a new location in neighboring New York in 2012, henceforth renamed the Hemmings Motor News Concours d’Elegance. Still supported by an open car show, banquet, and other special events, the Concours has maintained its focus in presenting a balance of historic, classic and sports cars by invitation only, along with vintage trucks and preservation vehicles. More recently, we’ve also honored several rarely appreciated categories, including vintage fire apparatus, police cars and military vehicles. The number of concours entries is limited, providing a fun and relaxing atmosphere for both spectators and participants alike. Just as important, the Concours is proud to give back to the community through charitable contributions.
As we begin our 11th year, we’re pleased to announce that the 2017 Hemmings Motor News Concours d’Elegance will now be held at the Charles R. Wood Park located in scenic Lake George, New York. Known as The Festival Place, the park – once the site of Gaslight Village – is situated just a short walk from the southern edge of the lake’s southern shore, the historic Fort William Henry Museum, Lake George Battlefield Park, the Lake George Steamboat Company, and the shops, restaurants and other local attractions on Canada Street. Another change for 2017 are the dates: the Hemmings Concours will be held on September 15 – 17, a week early than year’s prior. With immediate, easy access from the interstate, this exciting new venue promises to provide ample entertainment throughout the Concours weekend for the entire family.
Presented by Gullwing Motor Cars, the Hemmings Motor News Concours d’Elegance is also proud to welcome supporting sponsors Covercraft Industries, Thermo-Tec, and MPT Industries as we celebrate the featured classes of 1967-’81 Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Firebird in honor of their 50th anniversary; 1963-’73 Buick Riviera; Studebaker; MG; wood-bodied station wagons; and professional vehicles through 1980. They will be accompanied by our traditional pre-1974 classes, headlined by Full Classics (as recognized by the Classic Car Club of America), along with American pre- and postwar cars, American muscle cars, European cars, vintage trucks and preservation cars.
As is always the case, due to class size restrictions, many categories fill to capacity quickly. If you would like to have your vehicle considered for this year’s Concours, we urge you to submit your vehicle early. To do so, please send full contact information, photos and a brief write-up about it to Hemmings Motor News Concours, Attn: Matthew Litwin, 222 Main Street, Bennington, Vermont, 05201, or by email at [email protected].
