2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback starts at $22,190

2016 is a good year to be a hatchback fan: Chevrolet is bringing their Cruze Hatchback to the U.S., Honda is coming out with a Civic Hatch again, and the Ford Focus RS is finally a thing for Americans in good ol’ America. This fall, when the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback makes its way to dealerships it will start at $22,190, which includes an $875 destination charge. The Cruze Hatchback will be available in LT and Premier trims, and additionally with the RS package. While the Cruze sedan has two lower trim levels than the hatchback (L and LS) the Cruze Hatchback will come with more standard features, which should help with sales, since the $22,190 starting price makes it a bit pricier than some of the competition.

The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback will feature a 4G LTE data connection with a WiFi hotspot, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, wireless mobile device charging (for compatible devices), and the Teen Driver suite of driver monitoring technology. Cargo capacity is, as expected, greater than the sedan: 47.2 cubic feet with the rear seats folded versus 14.8 cubic feet in the sedan’s trunk. The sedan, with the same turbocharged 1.4-liter I-4, gets an EPA-estimated 29-30/41-42 mpg city/highway depending on which transmission you get. We expect the hatchback to get similar ratings from the EPA.

One thing the Chevrolet Cruze doesn’t have (yet) is a serious performance model to take on the likes of the Ford Focus ST (not to mention the RS) or the Volkswagen GTI. Is it time for another sporty compact from Chevrolet, in the same spirit as the late Cobalt SS? How does a Chevrolet Cruze SS sound to you? Let us know in the comments below.
