We develop some of our most intense emotions and attachments during childhood, and those feelings affect the decisions we make for the rest of our lives. Jonn Rippman and his 1970 American Motors AMX is a good example. Jonn’s taste in cars, in particular, and motorsports, in general, was heavily influenced by his older brother, Jim. Jonn says about his brother, “He built, modified, and raced just about everything,” adding, “he could fix anything, usually without a manual or parts diagram.” At nine years younger than Jim, Jonn idolized his brother, and he and his middle brother, Jeff, followed closely in Jim’s footsteps. “Whatever did, my brother, Jeff, and I were going to do it, too. All three of us raced everything under the sun, and it was always like a brotherly competition to see who could outdo whom.”
