1962 Bel Air – Giddyap!

There are some facts that any car guy should know: the firing order of a small-block Chevy, the horsepower rating of an LS6, the number of Hemi ’Cuda convertibles built in ’71, and the words to the Brian Wilson/Gary Usher Beach Boys song “409.” Your ability to recall those qualifies you for continuing membership in the fraternal order of gearheads. Therefore, it is with great shame that I must confess that I never connected the “giddy up, giddy up, 409” line in the song to the 409hp rating of the famous 409/409 Chevrolet W engine. My twisted mind could only conjure the image of a saddle resting on its iconic scalloped valve covers.
